Health Certificate for Milk and Milk Products
Starting 1 June 2020, milk and milk products imported to Japan for sale or business use must be
acoompanied by a health certificate issued by the competent authority of the exporting country. This is based on Article 10.2 of the Food Sanitation Act and Article 8 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Act.
1. Products
Imports of the following products must be accompanied by health certificates. The definitions of these products are stipulated in the Ministerial Ordinance on Milk and Milk products Concerning Compositional Standards etc. Please consult a quarantine station to confirm which product category applies to a specific product (e.g. fermented milk includes yoghurts) and if a product meets the standards.
Milk | raw milk, cow's milk, special milk, raw goat's milk, pasteurized goat's milk, raw sheep's milk, raw buffalo's milk, composition modified milk, low fat milk, skimmed milk, processed milk |
Milk products |
cream, butter, cheese (excluding processed cheese), concentrated whey, concentrated milk, concentrated skimmed milk, evoporated milk, evaporated skimmed milk, sweetened condensed milk, sweetened condensed skimmed milk, whole milk powder, skimmed milk powder, cream powder, whey powder, protein concentrated whey powder, buttermilk powder, sweetened milk powder, fermented milk |
Milk products include those produced with raw cow's milk, raw goat's milk, raw sheep's milk and raw buffalo's milk.
2. The Eligible Countries
