A report was compiled by “the Expert Meeting on Radiological Protection for Decontamination and Related Works”.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) has sought radiation hazards prevention measures for workers engaged in work involving soil and waste contaminated with radioactive materials released from the accident at the TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant associated with the Great East Japan Earthquake which occurred in 11 March 2011 (hereafter referred to as “decontamination work”) by holding the Expert Meeting on Radiological Protection for Decontamination and Related Works since October 2011.

Recently the expert meeting compiled a report.

For workers engaged in the decontamination work, the report discusses:

  1. Workers for exposure dose control, and method to manage the measured radiation doses
  2. Measures for reduction of radiation exposure
  3. Measures to prevent spread of the contamination, and to prevent internal exposure
  4. The worker education program
  5. Actions for health care
  6. Safety and health management system, etc.

The MHLW will formulate an Ordinance on Prevention of Ionizing Radiation Hazards Associated with Decontamination and Other Radiation Works (tentative name) and guidelines for decontamination work (tentative name) (The regulation will be enforced on 1 January 2012.)
