Accession rate 14.8%, Separation rate 14.8%,
Both has increased from the previous year

 

8-Aug-2013 The results of the “Survey on Employment Trends, 2012” have now been tabulated and released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
 The “Survey on Employment Trends” is carried out to study the characteristics of hired and separated employees in establishments in major industries across Japan, by industry and occupation, as well as by gender, age and reasons for leaving.
 The survey was conducted in two parts. The results presented here are aggregation of the two survey results compiled as annual totals.
 The survey selected 14,410 establishments employing 5 or more regular employees and received valid responses from 9,775 establishments for part 1 and 9,691 for part 2. The tabulation was made also on 88,239 hired employees and 95,946 separated employees of the responding establishments were tabulated.

 

【Key survey results】

1. Accession rate and separation rate

The accession rate*1 was 14.8% (previous year 14.2%), a 0.6 point increased on the previous year and the separation rate*2 was 14.8% (previous year 14.4%), a 0.4 point increased on the previous year. As a result, the rate of total labour movement (accession rate + separation rate) was 29.6% (previous year 28.6%).

2. Separation rate by reason for leaving

In terms of reasons for leaving, “personal reasons”, including marriage, child birth and child rearing, long-term care, or other personal reasons, accounted for10.3%, a 0.5 point increase on the previous year (9.8%). “Reasons of the establishment”, such as operational circumstances, transfer, and return after a transfer, accounted for 1.0%, a 0.2 point decrease (previous year 1.2%).

3. Wage changes of hired career-changing employees

The proportion of persons with an “increased” wage after changing career was 32.3%, a 3.8 point increase on the previous year (28.5%). That of “decreased” wage was 30.4%, a 1.6 point decrease (previous year 32.0%).
