12-Sep-2012 The results of the “Survey on Employment Trends, 2011” have now been tabulated and released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
The “Survey on Employment Trends” is carried out to study the characteristics of hired and separated employees in establishments in major industries across Japan, by industry and occupation, as well as by gender, age and reasons for leaving.
The survey was conducted in two parts, part 1* was conducted in July covering the period from January to June, and part 2 in January of the following year covering the period from July to December. The results presented here are aggregation of the two survey results compiled as annual totals.

*Results of the part 1 survey were published on February 28th, 2012.

The survey selected 14,777 establishments employing 5 or more regular employees and received valid responses from 10,237 establishments (part 1) and 10,248 (part 2). The tabulation was made also on 79,590 hired employees and 81,828 separated employees of the responding establishments.
In this survey, the “rate of employment creation” and “rate of employment loss” was estimated by size of enterprise and industry to understand the impact of opening and closing establishments to the number of employment, and is presented as a reference in the “Outline of Results” of the Summary Report. The estimate was made based on the results of this survey and records from the Employment Insurance on new opening and closing of establishments.
