- 1909, Apr.1
- Established as "Kyushu Leprosy Sanatorium" serving Kyushu's 7 prefectures (capacity: 150 residents, Area: 231,310 m2)
- 1911, Mar.30
- Changed the name of the sanatorium to "Kyushu Sanatorium" under Kumamoto prefectural governor's instruction; issue No.157
- 1913, Feb.8
- Kikuchi Keibin Railroad was opened between Kumamoto and Waifu
- 1919, Dec.10
- Electrical wiring work done by Kumamoto Electricity Co. finished
- 1926, June.19
- Patient's association (Jichikai)started
- 1941, July.1
- Moved to national jurisdiction and name changed to "National Sanatorium Kikuchi Keifuen". 1,100 beds changed the name of Patients' Association to Health and Welfare Society and unified the service with patients' protectors
