1909, Apr.1

Established as "Kyushu Leprosy Sanatorium" serving Kyushu's 7 prefectures (capacity: 150 residents, Area: 231,310 m2)

1911, Mar.30

Changed the name of the sanatorium to "Kyushu Sanatorium" under Kumamoto prefectural governor's instruction; issue No.157

1913, Feb.8

Kikuchi Keibin Railroad was opened between Kumamoto and Waifu

1919, Dec.10

Electrical wiring work done by Kumamoto Electricity Co. finished

1926, June.19

Patient's association (Jichikai)started

1941, July.1

Moved to national jurisdiction and name changed to "National Sanatorium Kikuchi Keifuen". 1,100 beds changed the name of Patients' Association to Health and Welfare Society and unified the service with patients' protectors

1943, Apr.1

Opened attached nursing school

1946, Apr.1

Moved nursery school Tatsuda dorm to nation

1948, Apr.1

Patients' Association (Jichikai) was revived

Koshi Jr. High School and Sakae Elementary School's branches opened in the sanatorium
