The G20 Joint Session of Finance and Health Ministers was held on 28 June. Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, Mr. NEMOTO Takumi attended the session as co-chair along with Minister of Finance, Mr. ASO Taro.
On the topic of health financing for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC*), Minister NEMOTO spoke about Japan’s experience in achieving and maintaining the health insurance system which covers all people, and stressed the importance of close collaboration between health and finance authorities. He also remarked that UHC and other global health issues will also be discussed at the G20 Okayama Health Ministers’ Meeting to be held in October this year.
As for deliverables from this session, G20 health ministers and finance ministers confirmed their commitment to the G20 Shared Understanding on the Importance of UHC Financing in Developing Countries.
