The 15th ILO Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting※ and the Special Session on “Natural Disaster Response with a Central Focus on Employment Policy” by the Government of Japan were held(Summary of results)

The International Labour Organization (ILO)’s 15th ILO Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting took place from 4 to 7 December in the city of Kyoto, with 419 participants from 38 countries. The Meeting was attended by Ms. Yoko Komiyama, Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, and a delegation representing the government, workers, and employers. Mr. Yoshihiko Noda, Prime Minister of Japan, delivered a special address on 4 December, the first day of the Meeting. On 7 December, conclusions of the Meeting (http://www.ilo.org/wcmsp5/groups/public/---ed_norm/---relconf/documents/meetingdocument/wcms_169589.pdf) were adopted by participating tripartite delegations from each country. Furthermore, on 5 December, during the Meeting period, the Government of Japan organized the Special Session on "Natural Disaster Response with a Central Focus on Employment Policy," in which Mr. Yoshio Maki, Senior Vice Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, compiled Lessons Learned on Employment Policy towards Natural Disaster Response (Attachment ). It was agreed during the closing session (plenary) of the Meeting, in which the above conclusions were adopted, to include the Lessons Learned as an Attachment to the conclusions of the Meeting.

*About every four years, the ILO Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting brings together constituents from 43 countries in Asia and the Pacific, attended by representatives of governments, workers, and employers in each country. For realizing Decent Work in Asia, the Meeting widely discusses issues related to the ILO’s activities in Asia and the Pacific region in the coming 4 years.
