“Basic Survey on Labour Unions, 2017”

 

Digest of the Summary Report

 

25-Dec-2017 The results of the “Basic Survey on Labour Unions, 2017” have now been tabulated and released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
This survey is carried out to identify the actual situation of the organization of labour unions including the estimated unionization rate and the distribution of union members by the industry, size of enterprise and their upper-part union. The survey is conducted in July regarding the situation as of June 30 every year, covering all unions.

 

[Key Survey Results]

1. The number of labour union members was 9,981 thousand, an increase of 41 thousand (0.4%) from 9,940 thousand in the previous year.【Table 1(PDF:31KB)】

2. The estimated unionization rate was 17.1%, 0.2 points decrease in the previous year.【Table 1(PDF:31KB)】

3. The number of female union members was 3,268 thousand, an increase of 76 thousand (2.4%) from 3,192 thousand in the previous year.【Table 1(PDF:31KB)】

4. The number of union members who are part-time employees was 1,208 thounsand, an increase of 77 thousand from 1,131 thousand in the previous year. Its share in the overall number of union members increased 0.8 points to 12.2%.【Table 5(PDF:30KB)】
