1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in January 2004 were 283,762 yen decreased by 1.7%.

Contractual cash earnings were 270,668 yen decreased by 0.1% and scheduled cash earnings were 251,920 yen decreased by 0.5%.

Real wage index was decreased by 1.4%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in January 2004 were 140.5 hours increased by 1.0% compared with a year earlier.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 14.4 hours increased by 9.5% and its seasonally adjusted figure increased by 2.5% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in January 2004 were decreased by 0.1% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.8%, part-time employees were increased by 6.6%.
