1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in August 2003 were 295,611 yen decreased by 1.7%.

Contractual cash earnings were 277,350 yen decreased by 0.2% and scheduled cash earnings were 259,318 yen decreased by 0.3%.

Real wage index was decreased by 1.2%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in August 2003 were 146.7 hours decreased by 1.4% compared with a year earlier.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 14.4 hours increased by 8.3% and its seasonally adjusted figure increased by 2.5% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in August 2003 were decreased by 0.4% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.3%, part-time employees were increased by 2.8%.
