1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in May 2003 were 282,440 yen increased by 0.6%.

Contractual cash earnings were 277,767 yen increased by 0.6% and scheduled cash earnings were 259,844 yen increased by 0.4%.

Real wage index was increased by 0.9%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in May 2003 were 151.5 hours increased by 1.9% compared with a year earlier.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 13.9 hours increased by 10.3% and its seasonally adjusted figure increased by 2.5% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in May 2003 were decreased by 0.6% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.2%, part-time employees were increased by 1.3%.
