1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in January 2003 were 294,098 yen decreased by 1.0%.

Contractual cash earnings were 275,934 yen decreased by 0.2% and scheduled cash earnings were 257,740 yen decreased by 0.5%.

Real wage index was decreased by 0.5%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in January 2003 were 140.0 hours increased by 1.2% compared with a year earlier.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 13.2 hours increased by 18.9% and its seasonally adjusted figure was increased 1.9% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in January 2003 were decreased by 0.6% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.5%, part-time employees were increased by 2.4%.
