1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in January 2002 were 296,948 yen decreased by 4.0%.

Contractual cash earnings were 276,514 yen decreased by 1.3% and scheduled cash earnings were 259,207 yen decreased by 1.0%.

Real wage index was decreased by 2.4%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in January 2002 were 138.4 hours decreased by 2.5% compared with a year earlier.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 11.1 hours decreased by 12.6% and its seasonally adjusted figure was increased by 2.9% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in January 2002 were decreased by 0.4% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.5%, part-time employees were increased by 3.9%.
