2. Children’s Living Status
(1) Wakeup Time and Bedtime
Both wakeup times and bedtimes became earlier on ordinary days.
With regard to wakeup times and bedtimes of children on ordinary days after the 4th survey (42 months), the proportion of children waking up “after 8:00 am” and of those going to bed “after 10:00 pm” decreased, resulting in earlier times as a whole.
Comparing wakeup times on Sundays and bedtimes on Saturdays with those on ordinary days in the 6th survey, the proportion of later times for both wakeup times on Sundays and bedtimes on Saturdays was higher than that on ordinary days (Figure 4).

With regard to bedtimes of children on ordinary days according to bedtimes of parents, the proportion of children whose mothers went to bed before 9:00 pm and who went to bed by 9:00-9:59 pm was 98.3%. Meanwhile, the proportion of children whose mothers went to bed in 9:00-9:59 pm and who went to bed by 9:00-9:59 pm was 97.5%.
The proportion of children whose fathers went to bed before 9:00 pm and who went to bed by 9:00-9:59 pm was 87.3%. Meanwhile, the proportion of children whose fathers went to bed in 9:00-9:59 pm and who went to bed by 9:00-9:59 pm was 89.3%.
Over 50% of children whose parents went to bed at any time period after 10:00 pm, went to bed in 9:00-9:59 pm. In addition, about 20% of children went to bed in 10:00-10:59 pm, showing a similar tendency (Figure 5).
