“General Survey on Working Conditions 2012”

 

Digest of the Summary Report

 

Number of days of paid annual leave acquired 9.0 days, acquisition rate 49.3%
Both has increased from the previous year

 

1-Nov-2012 The results of the “General Survey on Working Conditions 2012” have now been tabulated and released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
This survey aims to identify the actual situation of the working conditions of private companies in Japan. Private enterprises with 30 or more regular employees were surveyed in January on the situation as of January 1st, 2012. 4,355 valid responses were received of 6,128 establishments surveyed.

1 Number of days of paid annual leave acquired

“The number of days of paid annual leave granted” was 18.3 days (previous year 17.9 days), “the number of days of paid annual leave acquired” was 9.0 days (previous year 8.6 days), and “the acquisition rate ” was 49.3% (previous year 48.1%).

2 Retirement system and retirement age

(1) Determinants of basic salary

In terms of determinants of basic salary (multiple responses), the most frequent answers were “content of work such as job assignments and occupation” (72.5%) for managerial posts, and “job performance skills” (68.7%, (previous year 67.5%)) for non-manegerial posts.

(2) Major determinants of bounuses

Out of enterprises that paid bonus during 2011 (or fiscal year 2010) (83.1%), more than half of the enterprises gave “performance and outcome” as the major factor for determing its amount (54.1% for managerial posts (57.6% in the previous survey in 2009), 51.0% for non-manegerial posts (58.9% in the previous survey).
