“Basic Survey on Labour Unions, 2015”
Digest of the Summary Report
24-Dec-2015 The results of the “Basic Survey on Labour Unions, 2015” have now
been tabulated and released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
This survey is carried out to identify the actual situation of the organization of labour
unions including the estimated unionization rate and the distribution of union members
by the industry, size of enterprise and their upper-part union. The survey is conducted
in July regarding the situation as of June 30 every year, covering all unions.

1. The number of labour union members was 9,882 thousand, an increase of 33 thousand (0.3%) from 9,849 thousand in the previous year.【Table 1(PDF:31KB)】 2. The estimated unionization rate was 17.4%,a 0.1 point decrease in the previous year.【Table 1(PDF:31KB)】 3. The number of female union members was 3,120 thousand, an increase of 66 thousand (2.2%) from 3,054 thousand in the previous year.【Table 1(PDF:31KB)】 4. The number of union members who are part-time employees was 1,025 thounsand, an increase of 55 thousand from 970 thousand in the previous year.
