1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in May 2002 were 280,688 yen decreased by 2.2%.

Contractual cash earnings were 276,164 yen decreased by 1.8% and scheduled cash earnings were 258,959 yen decreased by 1.7%.

Real wage index was decreased by 1.1%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in May 2002 were 148.8 hours decreased by 0.2% compared with a year earlier.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 12.6 hours increased by 1.2% and its seasonally adjusted figure was increased by 3.1% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in May 2002 were decreased by 0.5% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.9%, part-time employees were increased by 5.1%.
