Final Report of Monthly Labour Survey

1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in March 2000 were 304,792 yen decreased by 0.6% compared with a year earlier .

Contractual cash earnings were 285,183 yen increased by 1.5% and scheduled cash earnings were 265,948 yen increased by 1.3%.

Real wage index was increased by 0.1%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in March 2000 were 157.4 hours increased by 1.7% compared with a year earlier.

Scheduled hours worked were 147.1 hours increased by 1.5%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 14.3 hours increased by 14.5% and its seasonally adjusted figure was increased by 3.8% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in March 2000 were decreased by 0.1% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 0.7%, part-time employees were increased by 2.5%.

Regular employees of major industries were as follows:decreased by 1.9% in Manufacturing, decreased by 1.1% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places, and increased by 2.0% in Services.
