Final Report of Monthly Labour Survey

1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in January 2000 were 305,282 yen increased by 1.4% compared with a year earlier .

Contractual cash earnings were 280,204 yen increased by 0.9% and scheduled cash earnings were 262,293 yen increased by 0.8%.

Real wage index was increased by 2.5%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in January 2000 were 141.2 hours increased by 0.5% compared with a year earlier.

Scheduled hours worked were 132.0 hours increased by 0.2%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 11.9 hours increased by 12.2% and its seasonally adjusted figure was increased by 2.8% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in January 2000 were decreased by 0.2% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 0.9%, part-time employees were increased by 2.9%.

Regular employees of major industries were as follows:decreased by 2.0% in Manufacturing, decreased by 1.4% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places, and increased by 2.0% in Services.
