1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in May 2000 were 286,992 yen increased by 0.7% compared with a year earlier .

Contractual cash earnings were 281,774 yen increased by 0.9% and scheduled cash earnings were 263,688 yen increased by 0.6%.

Real wage index was increased by 1.6%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in May 2000 were 148.0 hours increased by 1.5% compared with a year earlier.

Scheduled hours worked were 138.6 hours increased by 1.4%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 12.7 hours increased by12.4% and its seasonally adjusted figure was increased by 0.7% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in May 2000 were decreased by 0.3% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.1%, part-time employees were increased by 2.8%.

Regular employees of major industries were as follows:decreased by 1.7% in Manufacturing, decreased by 1.4% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places, and increased by 1.9% in Services.
