III. Numbers of survivors at specified ages and the median lengths of life

In the abridged life tables for 1999, the number of survivors at age 65 is 84,122 for males and 92,279 for females in a stationary population supported by 100,000 annual live births. These facts lead that the survival ratio until age 65 is 84.1% for males and 92.3% for females. In the same way, it follows that the survival ratio until age 80 is 50.6% for males and 73.1% for females.

The median length of life is 80.18 years for males and 86.81 years for females. In other words, exactly half the cohort still remain alive and half have died at the age of 80.18 for males and 86.81 for females.
